Mniobia scarlatina Ehrenberg, 1853
Mniobia scarlatina, between the leafs of Frullania dilatata. Never seen inside the lobules. Another Mniobia-species associated with Frullania, living inside the lobules of this liverwort, is Mniobia symbiotica. (1)

Mniobia scarlatina, head of the same specimen (1)

Mniobia scarlatina, anterior part, different focal planes. Upper left: specimen from (1); others: specimen from (5)

Mniobia scarlatina, anterior part of a specimen while creeping. Upper left image: focus plane on the rostrum lamella (4) . Upper right image: the 1st neck pseudosegment which bears the dorsal antenna (DA) has two characteristic folds (arrowheads) that seem to be typical for this species (I have never seen this in other bdelloids.) (2) Lower images: specimen from (2)

Mniobia scarlatina, anterior part with retracted head (dorsal antenna is still visible): focal plane on the integument

Mniobia scarlatina, detail of the integument. This species has unregular formed protuberances (which remind of pieces of a puzzle) with tiny pores.

Mniobia scarlatina, another specimen; detail of the integument, different focal planes. Upper immage: lateral view on the protuberances; lower image: the arrowheads point to some protuberances where the pores are visible in longitudinal optical transects. (5)

Mniobia scarlatina, foot from 3 different specimens. Upper images: focal plane on the adhesive plate (left image) (2) and slightly bulbous, granulated spurs (spur length: ≈14µm) with distinct tips (right image) and wide convex interspace (≈ 60% of spur segment width SSW) from (2). Lower images: left: specimen from (2); right: specimen from (5)

Mniobia scarlatina, ramate trophi; upper image; specimen from (4); cephalic view. Lower images: specimen from (5); left: cephalic view; trophi with dental formula 1+7+1/1+7+1 . Right: caudal view; ramus length (RaL): 30µm.

Mniobia scarlatina, (still) alive specimen with fungal parasites (5)

Mniobia scarlatina, another (dead) specimen, compressed by coverslide, with fungal parasites (5)

Mniobia scarlatina, fungal parasites of a dead (compressed by coverslide) specimen. The arrow points to a structure that looks like the spore of Triacutus subcuticularis (5)

According to BARTOS Mniobia scarlatina may be confused with Philodina rugosa coriacea, which has 4 toes instead of the adhesive plate, and also the dental formula is different (3+1/3+1). From own observations it is difficult to distinguish this species from Mniobia magna, and Mniobia russeola because the protuberances on the integument are not always visible.
